What Happens when Designers and Writers Unite?

It’s quite evident that web design is complimented with words or vice versa on almost every website. There is no digital space where you find just images or content, both go hand in hand. The job of copywriters and designers are pretty much same, only the technique of expressing their vision is different.  Thus, when these creative souls team-up, they can create wonders.

It’s proven! Some of the best creations are the outcome of joint forces.  Storytelling has become fundamental for creating powerful brand identity. Stories are usually conveyed through engaging words and to make the story more attention-grabbing, visual effects are integrated. So when designers and writers collaborate, user-experience is amplified, considerably.

Before the collaboration takes place, it is crucial to understand that writers and designers are equally important to make any project successful.

For an effective partnership, follow the below guidelines:

Understand each other’s expertise:

It is hard to work effectively in a team when you are unaware of each other’s skills and expertise. Since you are working together on a project with common goal, it is important to know each other’s responsibilities and also understand your own role.  As you are familiar with opposite member’s role and responsibilities, you can lend them support but make sure it doesn’t look like that you are teaching them their job.

Learn design terms and principles:

Copywriting doesn’t have much technical terms but designing has certain terms and principles that a writer has to be familiar with.  It is wise to know at least the basics of designing like alignment, typography, layout etc. Design basics will also help you in content writing as you can determine how much content will fit within particular layout and write accordingly.

Invite each other’s suggestion:

Within certain time of collaboration, writers eventually start developing visual sense on the other hand, designers grasp writing sense. Suggestions should be welcomed; you never know innovative ideas could crop up any time and assist in better brand building. Suggestion should not turn into arrogance. Each professional know their work better, so just limit till suggestion.

Put your end-user first:

No matter how much creativity you put in, if it doesn’t strike the emotional chord of the users, it is of no use. You need to put your point across the audience in the right way. Your end-users are your ultimate critics, if your creativity doesn’t appeal them, your efforts will be in vain.  It is wise to involve client in each and every step of project so that you can save much of your time and effort in redoing the work. Client feedback also resolves conflict that usually takes place while performing creative work. Designers and writers can work cordially as per client requirement without any ego clash.

So get your creative juices flowing and let the sum of dramatic writing and aesthetic designing, hit it big. Powerful alliance has often resulted in successful projects.
