The Challenge

A community of artisans without a home of their own.

Happy Basket came to us with a simple, beautiful idea: give South Australia's independent makers a single, trusted storefront — one that feels as crafted as the candles, ceramics and perfumes inside it. They had the relationships and the inventory. What they didn't have was a digital experience worthy of the work.

Their founders were splitting attention across Etsy, Instagram, and a stitched-together Shopify trial. Customers couldn't find a coherent story. Creators couldn't tell where a sale came from. And the brand — warm, local, considered — was being flattened by templates that looked nothing like the products they sold.

  • Fragmented sales channelsOrders trickled in from three platforms with no unified inventory, taxes or fulfilment.
  • No discovery, no storyVisitors landed on product grids before ever meeting a maker — conversion under 0.6%.
  • Mobile-hostile checkout62% of traffic was on phones, but the existing flow had a 78% cart abandonment rate.
Discovery

We started with the makers, not the wireframes.

Before a pixel was placed, we spent three weeks with the people behind the brand — visiting Aditi at Azalea Professional in Modbury Heights, photographing studios in Adelaide, and listening to twenty-plus creators describe what kept them up at night. The pattern was clear: every maker wanted to be seen as a maker, not a SKU.

Approach

Three commitments that shaped every screen.

We boiled down what we'd heard into three guiding principles. They became the lens we used for every design decision, every component, and every word of copy that landed on the site.

Editorial, not catalogue

Each maker gets a magazine-style profile with their voice, their photography, and their story. Products come second, makers come first.

Built thumbs-first

Every interaction was prototyped on a 360-pixel viewport before we touched the desktop. Checkout reduced from 7 steps to 2.

Run by humans

A creator dashboard with one-click stock updates, plain-English analytics, and a Slack-style chat to the Happy Basket team.

Design

A site that breathes — and sells.

Warm cream backgrounds, large editorial typography, and full-bleed maker photography. We designed a system that could carry a hand-poured candle and a hand-painted earring without one feeling more important than the other.

Webwingz didn't build us a website. They built us the place we always wished our craft lived — and our customers tell us, every single day.

Numbers that compound month after month.

The site launched in March 2024. Within ninety days every leading metric was up and to the right, and creators were reporting that Happy Basket had become their largest single channel — bigger than Etsy, bigger than market stalls, bigger than wholesale.
